CONVEGNO: "PROCESS-BASED MODELS FOR FOREST MANAGEMENT"

Rovaniemi ana Saariselka, Lapland Finland

This conference aims at bringing together scientists whose work is
directed towards management applications of process-oriented tree and
stand growth models. The current state-of-art of these models will be
reviewed from the point of view of different types of application, and
the requirements set for the models and their testing will be outlined. A
concluding keynote panel will discuss the capacity of process based
models to answer question arising in forestry practice and highlight the
key issue for future development of models and their applications.

La Regione Italiana della International Biometric Society (Soc. Italiana di Biometria) in collaborazione con l'Istituto Agronomico per l'Oltremare ed il Dipartimento di Statistica di Firenze organizza il

19° CORSO DI METODOLOGIA STATISTICA PER LA RICERCA BIOLOGICA DI BASE ED APPLICATA

Il Corso, organizzato ogni due anni, è a carattere residenziale, basato su lezioni ed esercitazioni pratiche anche con l'uso del calcolatore ed è rivolto a laureati in discipline scientifiche che desiderano affrontare le problematiche di base della statistica applicata alla sperimentazione in campo biologico, agrario, medico o farmacologico.
Il Corso si svolgerà dal 28 settembre al 16 ottobre 1998 presso il Centro di Formazione dell'Istituto Agronomico per l'Oltremare in Firenze, di recentissima realizzazione. La direzione del corso è affidata ai Proff. Alessandro Camussi e Marco Marchi dell'Università di Firenze.

Gli argomenti previsti sono:

	Calcolo delle probabilità ed algebra lineare
	Campionamento ed inferenza statistica
	Analisi della varianza
	Regressione e correlazione
	Il modello statistico lineare
	Disegni sperimentali
	Serie storiche
	Analisi di disegni a misure ripetute
	Metodi di analisi multivariata

Sono previsti anche alcuni seminari specialistici su metodi statistici innovativi per la ricerca.

E' offerta la possibilità di sistemazione presso il Centro di Formazione con vitto e alloggio a prezzi convenzionati per parte dei partecipanti. Servizio mensa in sede.
Le domande verranno accettate tenendo conto dell'ordine di arrivo anche se la direzione del Corso si riserva la possibilità di favorire la distribuzione dei partecipanti per sedi od istituzioni.
Al termine del Corso verrà rilasciato un attestato di partecipazione.

International Seminar on
CAUSES AND CONSEQUENCES OF ACCELERATING TREE GROWTH IN EUROPE
17- 19 May, 1998, Nancy, France

The aims of the seminar are:
1) to present the current understanding of possible causes of increasec
tree growth
2) to discuss the current understanding of the consequences of the
increased growth on the supply and demand of timber, its impact on tree
health, silviculture and forest management planning
3) to discuss the poissibilities to improve analyses and prediction tools
to ensure the continuity of sustainable management of forest resources
3) to provide platform for future cooperation
