ATTIVITA’ di RICERCA
Effetti e bioaccumulo di sostanze tossiche in organismi acquatici
E’ in atto una ricerca sugli effetti di alcuni metalli tossici su due organismi appartenenti a livelli
trofici associati ( Scenedesmus acutus e Daphnia magna ), effettuata in collaborazione con il
Dipartimento di Biologia Evolutiva e Funzionale (Sez. Biologia Vegetale). Vengono studiati su entrambi
gli organismi gli effetti tossici a diversi livelli dell’organizzazione biologica (effetti biochimici, fisiologici,
demografici, ecc.) e il bioaccumulo.dei metalli. Vengono inoltre studiati i meccanismi di
detossificazione, l’acquisizione di tolleranza e le conseguenze che questa può avere nella catena
alimentare
Studio di alcuni aspetti della biologia di Daphnia magna che rivestono
particolare interesse in ambito tossicologico
Differenze clonali nelle risposte agli stress ambientali, fitness e sensibilità ai tossici di organismi
generati in diverse condizioni di allevamento, fattori che inducono la riproduzione sessuata.
Applicazione del test con D. magna al controllo della tossicità subletale e
cronica degli effluenti industriali
Individuazione di metodologie applicabili al controllo sistematico della qualità delle acque e della
tossicità (o accettabilità) degli effluenti.
Fattori di stress ambientale connessi a condizioni di ipossia/anossia in
ambienti lagunari
Sono studiati gli effetti di ipossia e anossia e solfuri sulla sopravvivenza e la fenologia di schiusa
delle uova di un copepode planctonico ( Acartia tonsa) e di un gasteropode bentonico ( Hydrobia
sp.), entrambi di ambienti salmastri.
Differenze nella sensibilità a contaminanti ambientali in uova attive e
quiescenti di Acartia
In considerazione del fatto che la quiescenza è uno stato di ridotta attività metabolica, sono in
corso studi volti a valutare se questo stato fisiologico comporta modificazioni della sensibilità delle
uova a diverse sostanze tossiche, scelte fra i più diffusi contaminanti dei sedimenti. Questa ricerca
è finalizzata anche alla messa a punto di una metodologia di saggio per la valutazione della tossicità
di sedimenti anossici.
