INTRODUCTION: The Phytonet Newsgroup was developed to allow easy worldwide communications between scientists who work on problems related with Phytoremediation and Application of Plant Systems to Environmental Control.

A list of tentative contents includes:

• Application of plants to soil and water remediation (PCB, PAH, removal);
• Phytoextraction from contaminated soils (heavy metals, radionuclides and xenobiotics);
• Treatment of waste waters (municipal, industrial);
• Monitoring of industrial plants, urban areas, railroad systems;
• Physiology and metabolism of plants for environmental control;
• Taxonomy and genetic resources;
• Genetics and genetic engineering;
• Application of physico-chemical methods to study phytoremediation;
• Education in the field of phytoremediation.

Is within the purpose of Phytonet also

• to bring together experts from industries, Universities and Research Institutions;
• to make available a list of publications, journals and books on the subject;
• to help young students and Post-Doc interested in Phytoremediation to find occasion for employment;
• to publish a quarterly bulletin containing short presentation of the activities developed by participants to Phytonet;
• to make tempestive reports of meeting, seminars, conferences and workshops concerning Phytoremediation;
• to present or introduce the work carried out by Research Network operating in Phytoremediation.

Phytonet is supported by the University of Parma, Department of Environmental Sciences, Section of Environmental Biotechnologies, but is saving the possibility to make any application to National or International Agencies or to Private Funds for sponsorships.

Phytonet services are available to users free of charge.
